Trad Climbing Course
If you want to learn how to lead traditional gear protected rock climbs, this course is designed for you! Very small group sizes (max 4) allows us to provide personalized instruction that matches your skill and ambition level and provides a highly enjoyable weekend for all. During the course everyone will have lots of opportunities to lead trad climbs ranging from 5.3 to as hard as you like!

Prerequisites: Must have prior outdoor rock climbing experience including leading bolt protected sport climbs. If you have no lead climbing experience, consider taking our Sport Climbing Course to get you started.
Meeting Place & Time: Canmore at 7:30am
Rock Course Combo option: This course is often scheduled immediately after a Sport Climbing Course and before a Multipitch & Rope Rescue Course and can be combined at the discounted rate of $910 + GST for a full 5 days of rock climbing! Discounted rate also applies to combining the 3 courses anytime during the same summer.

A non-refundable deposit of $150 + GST is required to book your spot, with the remainder due 4 weeks prior to the start of the course. Invoices will be provided with options for etransfer, credit card and PayPal. Reading and completing a Waiver form is required to participate in all courses or trips. A copy of the Waiver will be provided to you before booking and can also be downloaded here: CRAG Waiver Form. Before booking you must acknowledge that you have read & agree to the Waiver form.
Agenda
Day 1 & 2 – On this course your guide will strive to provide each participant with instruction that is most relevant to his or her skill level. Therefore, it is impossible to provide an exact agenda but there will be 2 full days of climbing in the Canmore, Banff & Lake Louise area. Emphasis will be on proper placement of nuts & cams, anchor building, natural anchors and other trad climbing considerations. Topics such as multipitch skills, basic self-rescue and use of pitons can also be introduced.
Optional Day 3 – Multipitch Ascent: Course participants can add on a day of multipitch climbing in groups of 1 or 2 people. On the day after the course, this is offered at the discounted rate of $500 for 1 person or $275 each for 2 people. Please request this option in advance.
